Last year I tried out my first Lit RPG book, Dungeon Crawler Carl. I absolutely loved it. This summer, I thought, why not try that again. So, I opened up The Mayor of Noobtown, the first in a series with a significant series already in place; if I liked it, great, if not, oh, well.

Well, needless to say, I loved it and as of right now I am on the third book.

The premise is solid and different from what I have come across before; although it does get a little bogged down with the litany of levels and skills, but it has a way of working for me.

What I love the most about this book is Shart. Yes, Shart, and he is and isn’t exactly what you think. He is Jim’s little demon, and he adds a fantastic layer of juvenile comedy to the story. I just wanted to get back into the story to see what would happen next to Jim and Shart.

From my perspective, this story is pure unadulterated fun, that’s right – unadulterated – no adult behavior allowed. I think we all need those opportunities to shut the news off and just be a kid again, even if it is vicariously through a fictional character and his little sharty friend.

This book did exactly what I wanted from it. It was fun. I made a new friend. And I have plenty more adventures waiting for me as soon as I am ready.
