This novel came recommended to me by a very trusted source, so, of course, I was going to read it. It sounded quirky, sad, and very original. I decided to add it to my summer vacation reading list, and I am so happy that I did.
This is a dystopian novel that’s set at some point in the future. The appliances are sentient, households essentially take care of themselves, and a small vacuum infiltrates her way into the lives of her owner and the people around her.
This was undoubtedly a very touching story, but if I’m being completely honest, it was a bit unnerving as well. It was impossible to not see the parallels between this futuristic society and where our own could be heading with the advancement of AI.
The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances made me care about a little vacuum. That little vacuum displayed more compassion than some humans. It was a deeply moving, unique, and thought-provoking story.
