This book has a cat in a suit on the cover. I needed to read it; you need to read it too. There is a cat in a suit on the cover!
Let’s be honest, this book is all about the fun. The reader isn’t going to get some deep understanding of the human psyche; there will be no existential questions asked and answered. This is a book about a regular Joe, Bond-ish-type villains, talking cats, bumbling henchmen, and unionized dolphins. If you are looking at this book, you want to have some fun.
Fun was delivered! There is a skillful line to walk with this type of book. It has to be over-the-top, but too much and it is just too stupid, and the humor is lost.
You have to love Charlie; this criminal landscape is no place for him. But he eases into the job of his deceased uncle’s supervillain business and changes everything up. I suppose you could say that he turns supervillainy on its head.
What did this book make me do? It made me want to read more books by John Scalzi.
