King Sorrow

By Joe Hill

I’ve been waiting a long time for a full-length novel from Joe Hill, now that I’ve got it, what’s the rush? Let’s take our time and really savor this one. This eight hundred and ninety-six-page hardcover turns into the twenty-six-hour marathon of an Audible. Bring. It. On.

Even in a fantasy book Joe Hill makes the story tangible; the characters feel known and close; I may have known some of these same people way back when. These characters are the engine that drives King Sorrow. The evolution of their relationships over the many years of the story moves the narrative seamlessly. Over the years, I became close to Arthur, Van, Donna, Alison, Colin, and don’t forget Gwen. I followed their lives as they grew close and naturally, drifted apart. These six are King Sorrow.

In such a long story you need to have twists and turns; they abound in King Sorrow. This story is filled with unexpected shocks. There were so many things that I never saw coming, I loved every moment. King Sorrow is another great story from Joe Hill; I’m looking forward to the next story from him, and I know it will be well worth the wait.
