2 Book Lovers Reviews

On August 1st, I finished Dungeon Crawler Carl, and I immediately started Carl’s Doomsday Scenario, book 2 in the series. Today is September 21st and I have just finished book 7 in the series, This Inevitable Ruin. I have read nothing else but the Dungeon Crawler series during that time; 3 634 pages in six books. All of this reading of one series has left me with one thought: when will book eight release? Apparently, it is June 1st. Patience is a virtue as they say.

The true accomplishment of this series is Dinniman’s remarkable ability to keep his reader engaged. I have loved every moment that I have spent in the dungeon. Mentally, I had stopped looking at this as a series, but as one story that had to be physically divided for logistical purposes. Finish one book, open the next and pick up exactly where I left off.

More often than not a series can get a little redundant after a while: same characters, similar situations, same writing style. Dinniman has created some literary magic with this series. The story and characters are constantly evolving; the readers’ interest doesn’t have time to wane. As I finish a book, I am excited to see what will happen to Carl and Donut next.

These books are sizable, averaging over 600 pages each; they are not long, there is no downtime. Everything written has a purpose to move the story forward. Dinniman has done a fantastic job of giving each character their own voice, personality and purpose. The level of creativity and development involved in this series is mind-bending. It boggles my mind to imagine the planning involved in the creation of the dungeon; and this is paired off with the incredible humor contained within the story.

Having read seven books in two months from this one series has left me with one thought: I want more Dungeon Crawler. Netflix series, video game, prequels, sequels, I just want more Dungeon Crawler.
