Problematic Summer Romance
By Ali Hazelwood
This was just the treat that I was hoping it would be. I was ready to read a summer romance, one that was fun, a little angsty, set in a wonderful, breathtaking location. Problematic Summer Romance fit the bill perfectly.
There was nothing that I didn’t like about this book. As I mentioned, it was just what I happened to be in the mood for at the time. It had humor, a great cast of characters, and an age-gap romance that had all of the push and pull that I enjoy. Was the romance between the two main characters easy? Not at all. This was a slow-burn romance that I was more than happy to watch play out for as long as it took. I’m all about the building anticipation, and this one delivered it.
As the days counted down to the wedding of Maya’s older brother, Maya was not overly excited to run into Conor Harkness since they hadn’t spoken in months. During the countdown to the main event, we also got to see what had transpired between Maya and Conor over three years ago, when he really made an entrance and impression on her and her life. I enjoyed seeing how they interacted back then, how their early days and attraction to one another began. It set the scene perfectly.
Maya is twenty-three years old, brilliant, fun but fiery. Conor is fourteen years her senior, established in his career, rich, and closed off. Their differences made their interactions that much better. While she wanted nothing more than to get close to Conor, he made every valiant effort to keep her at arm’s length, trying to do the right thing by her.
Top all of that off with the beautiful setting of Sicily, Italy and you have an idyllic backdrop to a budding romance that will make you want to shut yourself off from the rest of the world and lose yourself in this novel.
There’s nothing better than looking forward to a novel and having it live up to your every expectation.
