Three Days in June was a delightful read. I didn’t realize how short this book was until I was reading along and noticed that I was already over fifty percent into it, but it’s brevity certainly didn’t hinder it from being an entertaining, heartfelt, character-driven novel.
The book really does take place over the course of three days: the day before the wedding, the wedding day, and the day after. Upon meeting Gail Baines, I knew that I was going to like her. She had her flaws, no doubt about it, but that’s what made her realistic. I adored her inner musings and thoughts. She started off having a bad day at work and her bad day just seemed to continue with the arrival of her ex-husband (and a cat), and the secret that her daughter reveals to them. As with any mother of the bride, Gail is filled with concern, worries, and hopes for her daughter’s future. She is trying very hard to reel everything in and just be supportive, just as her ex-husband seems to be able to do.
Everything that is transpiring with the wedding leads Gail to think of her own past marriage to Max. From their wedding to their married life, parenthood, and the reason for their divorce. The reader gets to learn what happened to their love story.
I felt as though I was able to get to know the characters despite my limited time with them, which demonstrates the talent of the author. Three Days in June had a wonderful cast of characters, humor, and a good deal of heart.
