Ruby Cooper has always been jealous of her older sister. Erin is prettier, smarter, she has a boyfriend, and Ruby’s jealousy knows no bounds. When something happens between Ruby and Milo, her sister’s boyfriend, life as the Cooper family knows it takes a drastic change.
The book alternates between Ruby and Erin’s perspectives for the most part, spanning decades. Sibling rivalry is common in most families, but my goodness, Ruby takes the cake! The Cooper sisters both experienced a great deal of pain, anguish, and suffering over the years, all stemming from Ruby’s jealousy and the “incident.” Once the lies started, they just kept accumulating, like a snowball getting bigger and bigger. Lives were forever changed and destroyed.
This was a fast-paced novel. I just kept wanting to read more and more of this twisted story. I would shake my head, wondering how a character could be so deceptive and downright evil. But in all honesty, that’s what makes a book like this so entertaining. It is always shocking to see what people/characters are willing to do, willing to sacrifice, all for some senseless ideas.
With fascinating characters, a shocking story, and a few twists along the way, The Truth About Ruby Cooper was just what I wanted from a psychological thriller. I highly recommend it to anyone with plenty of time on their hands, because you won’t want to put it down.
