My reading year is off to a great start, thanks to On a Night Like This. Whenever a book has me laughing out loud within the first few pages and reading passages to my husband (because, of course, I have to share), I know that I’m in for an entertaining reading experience.

I adored Fran right from the very beginning of this novel. She was likable, relatable, and I wanted to sit down and have a glass of wine and share a wheel of cheese with her. Yes, we could be great friends! Fran’s life wasn’t where she had thought it would be. Her long-term relationship had turned stagnant, her professional life was not what she wanted for herself, and she was just going through the motions of living her life. When an opportunity arises for a short-term gig as a personal assistant to a celebrity, Fran decides to take this rare opportunity to take a break from her regular life, embark on a yacht in the Mediterranean, and head to the Crystal Ball.

On a Night Like This is a modern-day Cinderella story. This novel was so much fun. Fran experienced her share of mishaps and mayhem that kept me reading along with a smile on my face. Nothing was smooth sailing for Fran, but she does end up crashing the Crystal Ball, meeting a handsome man, and having an unforgettable night.

While there is a swoon-worthy romance in On a Night Like This, this is also a story about Fran’s journey, about putting her wants and needs above everyone else’s and going after what she wants. Fran needed to find the inner strength and be true to herself, to be brave. Did I mention that I loved Fran?

On a Night Like This kept me thoroughly entertained from beginning to end. Lindsey Kelk has started my reading for 2022 on a high note.
