It seems as though I’ve finally hit my reading stride now that 2019 is almost over, but better late than never. Evvie Drake Starts Over had been on my to-be-read list since its release and, while I’m kicking myself for not reading it sooner, I’m just so glad that I finally did. I was completely charmed by this novel.
Right from the first few pages I had a feeling that this book was going to be the right book for me. I found myself highlighting entire pages in the book just so that I could read them to my husband. Feeling a connection with the characters, becoming invested in them, and being swept up in the story and the characters’ lives is essential in a good book, and in my opinion, this isn’t just a good book, it’s a wonderful book!
There was something so likable and relatable about Evvie Drake, in fact, all of the characters were so well done. I adored Evvie as soon as I became acquainted with her. She was so down to earth, funny, quirky, and I could just picture being friends with her.
While I would love nothing more than delve into all of the details of this book, I’m not going to. Readers can get a sense of what the book is about from reading the synopsis. What I will say is that this book has it all. It is touching, emotional, heartfelt, endearing, humorous, and romantic. Everything that I read felt completely authentic and believable. I loved the friendships, the family, the love, the small-town descriptions, and even the hardships and personal growth. I was completely on board and was rooting for the characters from the very beginning.
As soon as I reached the final few pages of the book, I realized that I wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to these characters. That’s what makes a book truly special. I am already looking forward to reading more by this talented author in the near future.
