I love a story with some quirk factor; right from the synopsis you can tell there is something not quite right about this story. Abby definitely has some stuff to deal with, and it looks like she has a steep hill to climb.
This story is told solely from Abby Lamb’s perspective. When dealing with a narrator like Abby you have to take things with a grain of salt, it is easy to fall into the protagonist’s narrative; they are our sole source of information. But the more Abby reveals about herself, the more we might suspect that everything is not as it seems to Abby.
Hogarth did a fantastic job of developing her characters, there are dysfunctional relationships all over the place. And many secrets lurking on the edge; I love edgy secrets in my books.
At the end of the day, Motherthing is shocking and disturbing and we are left with a couple of questions: Do the ends justify the means? And is Abby the hero or the villain? Great questions for the reader to answer.
