I love it when I read a synopsis for an upcoming novel and get a feeling that it will be just the book for me. With that being said, Dandelion Is Dead ended up being a bit different than what I had thought it would be. That’s not a bad thing, though. Whenever an author can take a story and the characters somewhere else, somewhere that I didn’t anticipate, that just makes it more creative and intriguing to me.

Dandelion Is Dead deals with loss, grief, forgiveness, family, and love. Everyone deals with grief in their own way, and Poppy wants to feel close to her sister again. She frequents her sister’s flat, she wears her clothes, and she even went on her dating app pretending to be her. I felt for Poppy. She and her sister were thick as thieves, as close as they could be. While Poppy was the quieter, more subdued sister, Dandelion was outgoing, vivacious, daring, and magnetic. All Poppy wanted was to feel her sister again.

I had so many feelings as I read this book. As a reader who is drawn to books with difficult, messy, complicated characters and storylines, this book grabbed me. There was nothing easy about this novel. The characters had depth and their stories had layers. They were each dealing with their own grief and problems. They didn’t always make the best decisions, and perhaps they struggled and faltered, but it made them interesting. Did I shake my head at them at times? Of course, I did, but I was invested in them despite some of their choices.

Dandelion Is Dead was emotional, heartbreaking, and yet, still hopeful. It wasn’t all gloom and doom, there were lighter moments that had me smiling as well. Overall, I enjoyed my time spent with this novel. I will absolutely be looking for a new book by Rosie Storey in the near future.
