The Caretaker was everything that I want in a horror novel. It was a pulse-pounding, atmospheric, creepy, intense read from beginning to end. Once I started reading it, I did not want to put it down.

Just like in a horror movie, I found myself talking to Macy and trying to give her some good, solid advice. Just like in the movies, it didn’t work. When Macy found a caretaking job on Craigslist, she was desperate and down on her luck. She needed the money and this three-day job offered up more than she had expected. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, but desperation can make people do just about anything.

This was no ordinary housesitting job. There was nothing normal about the property, the owner, and the rites that needed to be followed. I was on pins and needles for the entirety of this book. My heart was racing, my emotions were amped up, and I turned the pages with the utmost apprehension.

Marcus Kliewer delivers a story that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat and their nerves ratcheted up. Filled with a sense of foreboding and despair, The Caretaker takes the reader on a chilling, suspenseful ride. I am recommending this novel to everyone that I know! It will definitely be making my list of favorite books of 2026!
