With a beautiful cover and a synopsis that immediately grabbed my attention, Overdue was high on my to-be-read list.
Ingrid and Cory had been in a relationship for a long time. The next reasonable step to make would have been marriage, but when Cory says that he thinks they should take a break so that they can date/hook-up with other people, Ingrid agrees to it. After so many years together and only ever being with each other, you’d assume that it would be a little late to start sowing your wild oats, but it was mutually agreed upon and both thought that at the end of the month they would be back together as they had been. How well did this scenario work out for Ross and Rachel? I just kept shaking my head and thinking that hearts were going to be broken.
Ingrid knew the man she wanted to cozy up to during this break, her coworker Macon. When Macon turns down her advances, she is mortified that she may have ruined their friendship and work relationship. Yeah, that was risky, but it had the potential for a lot of fun.
As a big fan of slow-burn romances, I was completely fine with how long everything took. It seemed as though the romance aspect came second to this being about Ingrid’s journey of taking chances, finding out what made her happy, and what she wanted to do with her life. I liked Ingrid. I didn’t mind witnessing her journey, but it did get a bit lengthy to get to the romance, and I am a patient reader.
All in all, Overdue was a well-written story with a lot of heart. It wasn’t quite what I had thought it would be, but that’s life. I did enjoy getting acquainted with the characters and enjoyed my time with them.
