Dungeon Crawler Carl

By Matt Dinniman

I have noticed this book showing up every once in a while, then I started getting it recommended to me. I was in the mood for something completely different, so I thought, what the heck! And decided to give this one a try.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Matt Dinniman has written a fabulous book.  I was hooked right from the start!

My reading mood has been a little bit all over the place lately, with one overall theme: I want books that will make me laugh. One with some sarcasm, outrageousness or fabulous irony. But these books have to have a solid story behind them and not be afraid to cover some serious stuff at the same time. I'm really not asking for much.

Well, Mr. Dinniman, you’ve done it. You have given me exactly what I was looking for. Carl and Donut are the perfect comic duo.  The banter, the relationship, the camaraderie are perfect. A pairing like this will always keep me connected to the story.

Now, I am not a connoisseur of the LitRPG genre, but I have some ideas as to what makes this one stick out from the rest in the genre. Yes, it has all of those nostalgic notes that bring someone like me back to my youth; but it has a more current aspect to it. Dungeon Crawler Carl is a role-playing game set inside of a reality television show. BAM! Mind. Officially. Blown.

How good was Dungeon Crawler Carl? Well, I immediately went straight into book two and I am reading book three as I write this review. One benefit of getting into a series late.
