2 Book Lovers Reviews

*This series needs to be read in order.

I’m not even sure how to begin this review.  I have finally stopped shaking in the corner long enough to jot down a few lines!  This book isn’t just a casual read, it is consuming.  I spent much of my time trying to theorize what was going on.  I was trying to make sense out of it, analyzing it, wondering what was reality and what was insanity.
I don’t know.
I don’t know.
I don’t know.
I’m still scratching my head over this book.

Calla and Dare have traveled to Whitley, the family estate in England where Dare and Calla’s mother grew up.  The main purpose of their trip is so that Calla can begin to heal from all of her devastating losses.  She needs a fresh start, a vacation for her mind, and an escape from the death that is continuously shrouding her home in Oregon.  Secrets are still being kept from her.  Dare knows the truth, but he won’t give anything away.  She needs to see the truth herself, to remember.  Calla continues to struggle with what is real and what is just her mind’s way of protecting her.  She is still consumed by the death of her mother and Finn.  She isn’t content or comfortable in the Gothic, cold, and elaborate walls of the Whitley Estate.  She has a foreboding sense that danger is lurking, that she is being watched, and that she will never learn the truth.

Verum is a unique and superbly written book.  It is unlike any that I have ever read.  Courtney Cole takes the reader on a journey into the mind of a grieving young woman who is afraid that she is slipping into the depths madness.  It had me questioning and doubting everything. The twists and turns and mind trickery left me reeling and examining every possible scenario.  In the end, I’m still in a state of confusion.  I need answers…I need the final book!
