A great start for a new author.

In the not too distant future, the world has become a dark and dangerous place. This is the story of Michael Flynn, a young farm boy trying to find his way in the big bad city. He has nothing left except for his “friend”, Diomedes, a freelancer (basically, a thug for hire).

There was an excellent development of Michael’s character as he tries to figure out who he is and what he wants to become. Does he want to be the heartless monster that his mentor, Diomedes, is; or can he be something more? We follow Michael as he works his way through this, he must question his own morals against the brutal violence and attitude of Diomedes.

Certain parts of the story seem to be a bit disconnected with the main plot line, but I believe that they will be tied together when we get to the second installment of the series. I look forward to finding out if our hero will retain his human compassion or become another freelancer.
