2 Book Lovers Reviews

Katherine Shaw witnessed the unimaginable.  She has been reliving the horrific act of her mother’s murder for the past five years.  Just when her life seems to be getting back to some sense of normalcy, a death threat thrusts her world into danger.  With no other options but to attempt to keep himself and his daughter safe, Katherine’s father, a Supreme Court justice, hires bodyguards to watch over them.

Having two bodyguards as her roommates and shadow puts a real damper on Katherine’s lifestyle.  Although she realizes that these precautions are necessary to keep her out of harm’s way, it still feels like she is being chaperoned or kept in lockdown.  She feels isolated and secluded from normal university life.  Even her closest friend, Steven, is acting peculiar and keeping his distance from her.

Jason Garrett is a serious, down to business, stoic bodyguard.  His job is to make sure that Katherine is safe.  That’s it.  His job would be a lot easier if she wasn’t always trying to get under his skin.  She is sarcastic, flirtatious, and relentless.  Despite his obvious annoyance at this young woman, he can’t deny that he finds her attractive.  He didn’t expect to be drawn to her.  The one thing that he doesn’t do is get involved with clients, but being in such close proximity with this girl has made this rule very difficult to stick to.

I loved the flirtatious nature and banter between Katherine and Jason.  Brooke Blaine did an excellent job creating the tension, chemistry, and dialogue between them.  I wanted nothing more than for Jason to let down his guard and succumb to his attraction, although I’ll be the first to admit that half of the fun is the back and forth between the characters.

The storyline and the suspense was fast paced, keeping me on the edge of my seat and anticipating the next move.  The story alternates from Katherine’s, Jason’s, and even the killer/stalker’s perspective.  I appreciated this, as it gives the reader a better insight into the characters’ minds.

Flash Point is a well written book that is filled with drama, suspense, and a good dose of romance.  It kept me intrigued from start to finish and had me theorizing who was behind the threat to Katherine’s life and why.  I will definitely be looking forward to reading more by Brooke Blaine in the future.
